Estuarine Ecological Risk Assessment for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine, Volume 1: Technical Report, 1997, Department of the Navy, Northern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Lester, PA.

Point of Contact:

Frederick J. Evans, P.E., (610) 595-0567, x159

Summary:

This report presents the results of an ecological risk assessment conducted to determine whether contaminants released from Solid Waste Management Units located at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard are currently having an adverse effect on the ecology of the Piscataqua River. The risk assessment consisted of problem formulation, analysis, and risk characterization. Data were collected to evaluate exposure and effects, and a weight-of-evidence approach was employed to characterize risk. Low to intermediate risks were identified to a few selected location, and potential risk drivers included metals and pesticide derivatives.
