Data Limitations
Data are insufficient to resolve issues and draw a conclusion within the acceptable level of uncertainty (e.g., there is too little information to determine if contaminant concentrations found on the site can or cannot cause toxic effects) (Simini et al. 1999).
Data Quality Objectives (DQOs)
DQOs state the level of uncertainty that is acceptable from data collection activities. They also define the data quality necessary to make a certain decision.
Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP)
Addresses the cleanup of DoD hazardous waste sites consistent with requirements of CERCLA. In accordance with SARA, the three main objectives of DERP are: (1) identification, investigation, research and development, and cleanup of contamination from hazardous substances, pollutants, and contaminants; (2) correction of other environmental damage (e.g., unexploded ordnance) which creates an imminent and substantial endangerment to public health or the environment; and (3) demolition and removal of unsafe buildings and structures.
Dose
A measure of exposure. Examples: (1) the amount of chemical ingested; or (2) the amount of chemical actually taken up or absorbed (Suter 1993).
