Parameter
Constants applied to a model that are obtained by theoretical calculation or measurements taken at another time and/or place, and are assumed to be appropriate for the time and place being studied (EPA 1997).
Pollutants
A potentially harmful agent that occurs in the environment as a result of human actions (Suter 1993).
Post Assessment
Includes a Report of Assessment that consists of the Preassessment Screen Determination, the Assessment Plan, and the information specified in either the Type A or Type B Assessment; the recovery of assessed damages from the potentially responsible parties; the restoration account; and the restoration plan.
Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)
Any individual or company potentially responsible for, or contributing to, contamination at a Superfund site (EPA 1999).
Preassessment Screen (PAS)
A rapid review of readily available information that allows the authorized official to make an early decision on whether an NRDA can and should be prepared. It presents information on the site and any discharges or releases, damages included from liability under CERCLA, and damages excluded from liability under CERCLA.
Preliminary Assessment (PA)
The process of collecting and reviewing available information about a known or suspected hazardous waste site or release that is used to determine if the site requires further study (EPA 1999).
Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs)
Target contaminant media concentration levels selected for long-term targets during the analysis and selection of remedial alternatives. These are based on readily available information and are preliminary in nature (ORNL 1999b).
Probablistic Risk Assessment
An approach to risk assessment that incorporates distribution information for ecological and stressor parameters in order to characterize risk as a probability of an undesired effect.
