Three-Day MARSSIM Training Workshop

A three-day MARSSIM workshop intended for management and operations representatives from the site’s responsible agency, regulators, and private contractors involved in cleanup and decommissioning activities.

Argonne’s three day MARSSIM workshop trains personnel to develop site closure radiological surveys, implement the surveys, evaluate the collected data, and prepare the site release documentation required for approval by the appropriate regulating authorities. The workshop also provides instruction for management and regulatory personnel in the assessment of site release documentation.

The intended participants include:

  • management and operations representatives from the site’s responsible agency,
  • state and federal regulators, and
  • private contractors who will be conducting cleanup and decommissioning activities at the site.

The workshop utilizes site-specific examples and is relevant to attendees with a wide range of responsibilities.

The workshop can be conducted at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago or at other locations more convenient to participants. Participation by site management, State and Federal regulator, and contractor representatives will result in a comprehensive and shared understanding of MARSSIM principles and objectives.

Workshop topics include:

  • radiological survey types,
  • the data quality objective process,
  • selection and application of derived concentration guideline levels,
  • survey instrument selection and use,
  • final status survey design, and
  • performance of statistical tests.

Attendees receive a workshop notebook with references and a copy of the most recent MARSSIM manual.

Instructors have extensive training and experience in radiological site assessment, decontamination and decommissioning, and MARSSIM application. Areas of expertise include statistics, statistical analysis, radiological instrumentation, and nuclear quality assurance.
