The Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD) was formed in 1968 to serve as a common forum for the many governmental radiation protection agencies to communicate with each other and to promote uniform radiation protection regulations and activities.

The primary goal of the CRCPD is to make sure radiation exposure to individuals is kept to the lowest practical level, while not unduly restricting its beneficial uses. The four major objectives are to (1) promote consistent radiation protection practices, (2) provide leadership in radiation issues, (3) improve efficiency in providing radiation protection, and (4) enhance relationships with members.

The CRCPD publishes the Suggested State Regulations for Control of Radiation, which includes a chapter on the regulation and licensing of technologically enhanced NORM. This chapter, titled "Part N: Regulation and Licensing of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (TENORM)" is available on the CRCPD’s web site.
