Geologic Review
DOE funded the University of Texas, Bureau of Economic Geology
(BEG) to conduct geologic studies of the salt formations in the
Midland Basin of West Texas. The studies found regional variation
in:
- the depth to the top of the salt formation (See Figure 1 below)
- the thickness of the salt layers (See Figure 2 below)
- the nature of the low-permeability layers that separate the
bedded salt layers
- the nature of salt dissolution
