As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA)
An approach to control or manage radiation exposures (both individual and collective to the workforce and the public) and releases of radioactive material to the environment as low as social, technical, economic, practical, and public policy considerations permit. ALARA is not a dose limit; it is a practice that has as its objective the attainment of dose levels as far below applicable limits as possible.
