The Cylinder Management Program

The depleted UF6 cylinders at Paducah, Portsmouth, and Oak Ridge are currently managed under the Cylinder Program Management Plan.

Management activities include inspecting, monitoring, and taking whatever other actions are necessary to ensure that the cylinders retain their integrity. Specific elements of the program include technical assessments and inspections, replacement of defective cylinder valves and plugs, repainting of cylinders, minimization of corrosion, handling, surveillance, cylinder yard maintenance, security, inventory control, research and development, and testing and evaluation.
